WHY WE USE GRANITE FOR OUR COUNTERTOPS:
Granite, quarried from the mountains of Italy, the U.S., India, and dozens of other countries around the world, is one of the most popular natural stones on the market. Available in a striking array of colors, granite's durability and longevity make it ideal for kitchen countertops and other heavily used surfaces.
While some synthetic surfaces scratch easily and melt under hot cookware, granite resists heat. Granite is also one of the most bacteria-resistant kitchen surfaces, and it is not affected by citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, or wine. It is also nearly impossible to scratch, and with proper cleaning, will not stain under normal use.
A leading consumer magazine recently compared granite with engineered stone, ceramic tile, laminate, butcher block, and other manufactured surfaces. Granite received the highest overall performance rating as a kitchen countertop material.
As the saying goes, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Countertops made from acrylic and other manufactured materials may have the “look” of granite, but the similarities end there. For resistance to bacteria, heat, scratches, stains, and overall performance, granite is unsurpassed.
Does Granite stain?
For the most part, granite does not stain. While it is true that stone is a porous material, of all the stones, Granite is the least porous. We apply an impregnating sealer to the stone when it is installed to further protect it from this possibility. Water left on a Granite counter top for a long period of time will show evidence of moisture. It will however evaporate and the "dark spot" will disappear. Oil left on a Granite surface will slowly be absorbed into the stone. It is recommended that any spills be wiped up when they occur. If the spill is not caught in time and a stain does occur, a poultice may be applied to draw the oil back out of the stone. Over time the oil will naturally redistribute itself in the stone until it becomes virtually undetectable.
How scratch-resistant is Granite?
With normal daily use, even cutting directly upon it, you will not mar the finish of your counter top. Unlike any other surface, Granite will not lose its shine.
How heat-resistant is Granite?
Unlike "man made" synthetic solid surface counter tops, granite can withstand a dish hot from the oven or stove right onto its surface.
Will my Granite counter top chip or crack?
Most flaws in stone are detected during transit of the slab. If it can withstand the fabrication process, it will never break under normal kitchen conditions. You would have to assault it with something like a hammer and even then, you'd have to work at it.
How much does granite cost?
There are many variations in granite colors, styles, availability and difficulty of mining and transportation. All of these factors affect the cost of the granite. To make things even more difficult, different granite manufacturers have different names for their granite, even though it may be basically the same color. Creative Outdoor Kitchens works with several excellent granite distrubutors locally. We hand pick our supply yards and work with each one on an individual basis. We may recommend you visit a particular yard because of their location relative to you, their level of service and the availablility of the type of granite you may be looking for. In general, here is a list of "standard" granite colors from one of our suppliers, Unique Granite (www.uniquegraniteusa.com) which will be included in the price for your kitchen. Other colors may require an upgrade fee of $300, $1,000 or more:

WHY WE USE "GRANITE STUCCO" FOR THE SIDES OF OUR KITCHENS:
Crushed granite stucco has excellent color retention and is resistant to dirt pickup, mildew growth and UV degradation. It is rated 5000 psi and may be pressure washed. We DO NOT use paint anywhere on our kitchens because paint eventually fades and is not durable enough for our quality standards. Crushed Granite is used on the outside of commercial buildings and as such, is regarded for its durability and longevity. There are 10 colors available:
STONE:
Stone is another beautiful addition to the outside surface of our kitchens. Priced a little higher than the crushed granite stucco, stone adds a luxurious and "earthy" quality to the outdoor kitchen, bar and fireplace area. You can find a great many stone selections at this website:

APPLIANCES:
We are representatives for many excellent brands of outdoor appliances. Our favorite is Firemagic. Everyone seems to have their own opinions of which brand is best, however in our 19 years of experience, we have chosen Firemagic by R.H. Peterson as our "premier" brand. The quality of product, lifetime warranty and outstanding support have led us to this conclusion. You can do your own research on Firmagic and other outdoor appliance manufacturers and come to your own conclusions. It doesn't matter to us - we will install whatever you select or even help restore your existing appliances for use in your outdoor kitchen. We are always willing to voice our opinion but the ultimate decision is yours.
To help you with your research, Here is a link to a comparison chart of different makes and manufacturer published by Firemagic. It was developed in 2007, but most of the information should still be relevant. We sincerely hope it helps you decide:
